It wasn't the best of times for the Phoenix girls' track team last week. In fact, it was the first time in eight years that the locals lost a dual meet.
On April 22 the Phoenix fell to Belleville 70-66.
"It was a long streak," Phoenix Coach Torin Moore said. "It goes back to Coach Mick (Tom Micallef). Now we will have to start another one."
Kyra Caldwell took first in the 100-meter hurdles, 300-meter hurdles, 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash.
Berghe' House was first in the high jump. Carmisha Bell won the discus and Shameka Hamilton won the 800-meter run. Ypsilanti's only relay win was in the 3,200-meter relay.
Key second place finishes were by DeLisia Morris in the high jump, Talecia Francois in the long jump and 800-meter run, and Bell in the shot. Anna Kluitenberg was second in the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter runs.
On Friday, the Phoenix took second at the Raider Relays in North Farmington. Ypsilanti had 44 points and Livonia Franklin finished with 66 points.
The locals took first in the 800-meter relay. The Sprint Medley of Caldwell, Shavonne Roberson, Iesha Gray and Hamilton took first. The 1,600-meter relay of Francois, Maria Williams, Caldwell and Hamilton took first at the meet.
Ypsilanti took fourth in the shuttle relays, fifth in the discus relays and fifth in the high jump relays. The distance medley finished sixth for the Phoenix.
Caldwell took two first place finishes (100 and 300-meter hurdles) on Saturday at the Shumake Relays at Detroit Renaissance. As a team Ypsilanti had 42 points and took seventh place. Saline won the meet with 64.5 points.
Ypsilanti took second in the 4x400 meter relay, third in the 4x200 meter relay and fifth in the 4x100 meter relay.
